“In a tragic turn of events, the traditional ruler of Sansani chiefdom in Gassol local government area of Taraba state, Alhaji Abdulmutalib Jankada, has reportedly been shot dead.

Reports reveal that Jankada was killed by armed individuals who forcefully entered his palace on Thursday night. Eyewitnesses recounted that the assailants, arriving on motorcycles, discreetly made their way into the palace before targeting the room where the monarch was present.

The gunmen fired multiple shots at the ruler before fleeing the scene with his phones, leaving the palace guards and family members in shock and disbelief. The monarch’s lifeless body was discovered by his spouse, who raised the alarm, drawing the attention of the entire town and neighbouring chiefdoms.

Musa Sansani, a resident of Sansani town, expressed shock over the incident, mentioning that the late chief had planned to attend the Nwonyo Fishing Festival but had not left as previously thought. The assailants reportedly departed quietly after carrying out the assassination.

This unfortunate incident adds to a string of similar tragedies involving traditional rulers in Taraba State, with approximately seven cases reported in recent years. The community mourns the loss of the esteemed ruler, and preparations are underway for his burial following Friday prayers.”
