“In a concerning incident, two personnel of the Nigerian Army have been apprehended for their involvement in the vandalism and theft of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.
The suspects, identified as CPL Innocent Joseph and L/CPL Jacob Gani, were reportedly caught red-handed attempting to exit the refinery premises with 897 armoured cables that had been cut to size. The incident occurred last Sunday and came to light through a military signal obtained by SaharaReporters.
According to the signal, CPL Innocent Joseph and L/CPL Jacob Gani, who were associated with Dangote Refinery Limited, were intercepted while leaving the facility in an Acura jeep with registration number LAGOS JJJ 594 HS. Upon routine search at the main gate, the stolen cables were discovered in their possession.
During subsequent investigations, the suspects confessed to obtaining the cables from the refinery with the assistance of an individual named Smart, who is currently at large. The vehicle used in the operation has been impounded, along with the stolen cables, as evidence.
The matter has been reported to the OC Army, and the two soldiers have been taken into custody pending further investigation. The incident underscores the importance of vigilance in safeguarding critical infrastructure and the need for robust measures to combat theft and vandalism.”
