Nigerian troops kill several terrorists in N/West, intercept illicit drugs in Ogun – Army

The Nigerian Army has announced a series of successful operations in Katsina, Zamfara, and Ogun States, resulting in significant losses for terrorist groups and criminal elements. According to a statement released on the official ‘X’ handle of the Nigerian Army on Monday, the operations took place on March 29 and March 30.

In Zamfara State, troops conducted a raid on the den of a notorious terrorist kingpin, Hassan Yantagwaye, in Tsafe Local Government Area. Yantagwaye and his group were known for their involvement in kidnappings and terrorist activities across North West Nigeria. During the operation, three terrorists were neutralized, and a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. Additionally, the terrorists’ camps were destroyed.

In Katsina State, troops engaged in a fierce gun battle with terrorists in various locations within Faskari Local Government Area, including Shawu Kuka, Shinda, Tafki, Gidan Surajo, and Citakushi. Eight terrorists were neutralized, and military uniforms, locally fabricated guns, and stolen grains were recovered.

Meanwhile, in Ogun State, troops intercepted 441 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa in Molegede village, Odeda Local Government Area. The illicit substances were found in a Mazda Saloon car abandoned by smugglers upon sighting the troops. The vehicle and illegal products will be handed over to the appropriate agency after preliminary investigations.

Additionally, troops conducting night patrols in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State encountered armed Effium militias along Urban Effium. In the ensuing combat engagement, one militia member was captured, and one AK – 47 Rifle with 11 rounds of 7.62mm Special Ammunition were recovered.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the populace and pledged to continue its efforts to rid the nation of terrorists and insurgents. Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the bravery and dedication of the troops involved in the successful operations. The public was assured of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to its constitutional responsibilities.
