Vice-President Kashim Shettima Acknowledges Economic Challenges Ahead of Ramadan
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has acknowledged that the forthcoming Ramadan fast will pose severe challenges for many Nigerians due to the economic reforms initiated by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at the 29th pre-Ramadan lecture organized by the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni in Lagos, Shettima, represented by his special adviser on political matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, highlighted the theme “Economic Reforms for Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects for the Future.”
Shettima emphasized the understanding within the federal government that the economic policies and choices made will have significant ramifications, particularly for the disadvantaged segments of society.
He urged Nigerians to express their concerns about the current economic situation in a responsible and mature manner, acknowledging the difficulties faced by citizens due to rising living costs and skepticism about the country’s economic prospects.
Shettima reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s challenges, emphasizing that the adopted policy choices were not intended to exacerbate the hardships faced by citizens. He called for collective efforts to steer the nation towards growth and inclusive development.
Recognizing the need for a distinctly Nigerian approach to solutions, Shettima underscored the importance of informed criticism and constructive engagement in achieving progress.
In closing, Shettima invoked faith and prayer, urging fellow Nigerians to seek relief from hardship and exercise discipline during times of abundance. He expressed hope that the Ramadan fast would be observed in accordance with divine guidance, bringing spiritual reward to all participants.
