Nigerian Army Clears IPOB/ESN Hideout in Imo State, Neutralizes Terrorist

The Nigerian Army has announced the successful clearance of an IPOB/ESN hideout in Ihiteukwa Community, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State. This operation resulted in the neutralization of one IPOB/ESN terrorist after a fierce firefight on Saturday.

According to Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, troops conducted a thorough search of the hideout, recovering three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), one Toyota Highlander SUV, and one Hilux vehicle. Additionally, the troops seized eight rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, six rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, and a locally fabricated single barrel gun.

Various other items were also confiscated from the terrorists’ hideout, including a pair of proscribed Biafran uniforms, a solar panel, and a CCTV camera. Furthermore, 10 mobile phones, batteries, proscribed Biafran currency, solar street lights, jungle hats, pairs of black boots, and assorted charms were recovered.

In a separate encounter, troops engaged IPOB/ESN terrorists at their crossing point in Akawa Nneato area of Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State. The firefight forced the terrorists to flee into nearby bushes. Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, an FN rifle, ammunition, and empty magazines from the scene.

Additionally, in the Kawara general area of Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State, troops cleared and destroyed several terrorists’ camps. Items seized during this operation included motorbikes, ammunition, camouflage, boots, magazine carriers, and a Boafeng radio.

Maj.-Gen. Nwachukwu affirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens, pledging to sustain operations to eliminate insurgents and restore peace and stability in the country.
