Iwobi returns to Instagram after AFCON criticism

Nigeria Footballer Alex Iwobi Returns to Instagram Amidst Cyberbullying

Super Eagles player, Alex Iwobi, has made a comeback to the social media platform Instagram after a brief hiatus. His absence from the platform followed a barrage of attacks targeted at him following the team’s defeat to Ivory Coast in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Fulham midfielder faced severe cyberbullying, with Nigerians criticizing his midfield performance during the game. This led to a wave of threats and insults on his Instagram page, prompting Iwobi to delete over a hundred posts from his profile.

However, on Saturday night, the 27-year-old footballer returned to Instagram, sharing a video that hinted at an unreleased rap song. The video featured clips of his football games, showcasing his self-confidence and defiance against those who doubted his abilities.

Support poured in for Iwobi from various quarters, with Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, encouraging him to remain resilient despite facing heavy criticism. Additionally, his uncle, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, and fellow football star Ahmed Musa, along with several others, voiced their support for Iwobi and urged his attackers to desist.
