Nigerian troops kill 99 terrorists, apprehend 198 others in 1 week – DHQ
The Defence Headquarters has reported significant achievements in recent military operations conducted by the Armed Forces of Nigeria. In the last week, troops successfully eliminated 99 terrorists and apprehended 198 individuals in operations spanning the North East, North Central, and North West regions. Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, provided comprehensive details during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
Key highlights include the rescue of 139 hostages and the recovery of 141 assorted weapons and 1,463 ammunition in the North East, North Central, and North West theatres. The recovered items encompass various firearms such as AK47 rifles, GPMG, GT3 rifles, and assault rifles.
In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai’s troops apprehended three suspected terrorists collaborators in Yobe. Additionally, 108 terrorists and their families surrendered between November 17 and 23, including 13 adult males, 32 adult females, and 63 children. The troops also neutralized 19 terrorists, arrested 21, and rescued eight kidnapped victims.
The North Central operations, led by Operation Safe Haven, resulted in the neutralization of three terrorists, the apprehension of 32 individuals, and the rescue of eight kidnapped victims. In the same region, Operation Whirl Stroke conducted successful raids in Taraba and Benue States, neutralizing two terrorists, arresting nine, and rescuing three hostages.
In the North West, Operation Hadarin Daji’s troops neutralized 20 terrorists, apprehended 20, and rescued 83 kidnapped victims across Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States. Notably, an air interdiction targeted a terrorist leaders’ enclave known as Lalbi Nagogo in Katsina State, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists.
Operation Whirl Punch troops conducted effective fighting patrols in Kaduna State and FCT, neutralizing 16 terrorists, arresting 16 suspects, and rescuing three hostages. Furthermore, an air interdiction on a terrorist leader’s enclave in Kaduna State led to the neutralization of Nasiru, the leader’s older brother, along with several lieutenants and foot soldiers.
These successful military operations, conducted by various units, reflect a comprehensive approach to addressing security challenges in different regions of Nigeria.
