OAU reduces registration fees

The administration at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has decided to reduce the various fees that students are required to pay. This announcement was made by the University’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement released on Monday in Ile-Ife.

Mr. Olarewaju explained that this decision came after a meeting between the University management and the leadership of the Students Union. The meeting, which extended over several hours, was called in response to persistent demands from the students’ union for a reduction in the initially approved charges.

He mentioned that the student union leaders had insisted on a 50 percent reduction in charges, but the University management emphasized that the new charges were the minimum necessary for the efficient operation of the University. However, Vice Chancellor Prof. Adebayo Bamire announced a reduction in the initial charges.

For returning students in the Humanities, the initial sundry charges of N89,200 have been reduced to N76,000. New Humanities students will now pay N131,000 instead of the initial N151,200. In the Sciences and Technology faculties, returning students will now pay N86,000 instead of N101,200, while new students in the same faculties will pay N141,000 instead of the initial N163,200.

Returning students in the Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences will now pay N109,000 instead of N128,200, and new students in these faculties will pay N164,000 instead of the initial N190,000.

Additionally, the University management has allowed students to make these payments in two equal installments. The University portal is now open for students to complete their payments.
