Gunmen invade Labaran Maku’s residence, injure 4 security personnel
On a Saturday night, unidentified gunmen attacked the residence of Mr. Labaran Maku, a former Minister of Information, in Akpata community, Akun, Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. During the invasion, four security personnel at the residence were injured by the criminals.
One of the injured security personnel recounted the incident, stating that the criminals forcefully entered the residence around 7:50 p.m. They began shooting sporadically, and when the security personnel refused to open the gate, the attackers continued shooting and eventually jumped over the fence to gain entry.
In response to the incident, Maku expressed concern over the escalating levels of kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of insecurity across the state. He highlighted that this was the third time his residence and relatives had been targeted by criminals. A month prior, criminal elements had invaded his father’s compound and kidnapped three family members. Two years ago, they also killed two of his elder brother’s children at their residence in Gudi community, Akwanga Local Government Area.
The former minister’s statements indicate that the state is facing a significant security challenge and that such incidents are becoming distressingly frequent.
In reaction to the attack, Governor Abdullahi Sule condemned the violence and instructed the security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators. The government is taking measures to address various forms of insecurity within the state.
The incident reflects the ongoing security crisis in Nasarawa State, and authorities are under pressure to implement effective strategies to curb criminal activities and restore safety for residents.
