Man steals pot of soup, charged for housebreaking in Ekiti court

On Wednesday, the police presented Monday Ojo, a 20-year-old man, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on charges of housebreaking and theft, alleging the pilfering of a pot of soup and other items.

Ojo, who lacks a fixed address, faces a two-count charge but pleaded not guilty. According to the prosecutor, Insp Moyosola Adesola, the alleged incidents occurred on March 14 around noon in Falegan, Ilawe Road, Ado-Ekiti.

Adesola claimed that Ojo unlawfully entered the residence of Mrs. Modupe Ajala and made off with a pot of soup, ‘fufu’, Indomie noodles, salt, and onions, valued at N300,000. These actions purportedly contravene Sections 322 and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

Chief Magistrate Mrs. Taiwo Ajibade granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50,000, with one surety required to provide a matching amount. The case is adjourned until April 23 for further proceedings.
