PDP demands probe into attempted attack on Atiku’s residence by Boko Haram members
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for an investigation into the reported terrorist attack on its former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Yola, Adamawa. The party expressed alarm over the foiled terrorist attack on Abubakar and other sensitive locations in Yola.
According to the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the arrested assailants have confessed, revealing the “paw marks of a sponsored attempt” on Atiku Abubakar’s life.
The PDP is urging the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, to take the lead provided by the assailants’ confession to track down their sponsors and bring them to justice in the interest of national security, unity, and wellbeing.
The party also calls on the Federal Government to ensure that the perpetrators of the attack and their sponsors are brought to book, considering the scope and dimension of the attempted attack.
In response to the incident, the PDP urges security agencies to enhance security measures around Atiku Abubakar and his family during this critical time in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The PDP commends the collaborative efforts of the vigilant people of Yola and security agencies in foiling the attack. The party urges Nigerians to remain calm as authorities begin an investigation to identify and apprehend those behind the evil plot.
According to the police in Adamawa, four people suspected to be members of Boko Haram were arrested over the alleged plot to attack Atiku Abubakar’s residence. One of the suspects was apprehended at the gate of Abubakar’s house, while the other was picked up at a different location in the state capital.
The suspects reportedly confessed to being Boko Haram members and said they were sent to study the house and other sensitive places for an attack. They have been handed over to the military authorities for further action.
