GTBank denies website hack, cites connectivity issues

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has refuted claims that its website was compromised by hackers, asserting that the reports are entirely untrue. The bank’s official website, gtbank.com, became temporarily inaccessible on Wednesday night, raising concerns, especially since the domain had just been renewed until 2029. Despite the website’s downtime, GTBank’s mobile apps on Android and iOS continued to operate without any issues.

There has been no confirmation from any hacker group regarding the incident, and some believe that a fraudulent version of the website may have been created to deceive customers into providing sensitive information. A cybersecurity expert speculated that the disruption might be linked to compromised login credentials rather than a domain hijacking.

In an interview with the Daily Post, a senior GTBank executive explained that the issue was due to a connectivity problem, not a security breach, dismissing the hacking claims.
